We have already looked at Keith Hernandez, Mark McGwire, and Rafael Palmeiro. Today, we will look at Will Clark and John Olerud. Their candidacies are similar to Keith Hernandez in that they don’t necessarily look like the typical Hall of Famer we envision in our mind. They did not routinely hit 30 home runs and drive in 100 runs. However, as we have learned, we are talking about overall value and not a narrow view of simple offensive value.
However, we reach a subset when we get to Will Clark that we didn’t reach with the others. The tag line usually goes, “if he would have been healthier…”.
