Astros have replacements for Chris Carter, Hank Conger

With the Astros opting not to bring back slugging first baseman Chris Carter and backup catcher Hank Conger, it’s time to look to the future.

Carter hit just .199 last season and had 545 strikeouts in three seasons in Houston. Of course, he also hit 24 home runs and went on a late tear last season, hitting .344 in September to help the Astros reach the playoffs.

However, the Astros have plenty of young players at first base. Fans probably are most familiar with Jon Singleton, who has put up big numbers in the minors, but has yet to produce in the big leagues.
