Astros bats went quiet, wasting a decent combined pitching performance by Lance McCullers and relief pitchers Ryne Stanek and Cristian Javier.
The Astros only mustered three hits against Angels starter Reid Detmers, who finished the game with a season ERA of 7.04. He did allow the solo homer to Michael Brantley in the third.
The Astros did manage to put the tying runs on second and third in the ninth inning, but Jose Altuve struck out to end the game.
The Angels tied the game in the fifth when former Astro Jack Mayfield scored after a Shohei Ohtani single and a David Fletcher ground out.
