ANAHEIM -- Astros outfield prospect Preston Tucker made his Major League debut on Thursday night against the Angels after being called up from Triple-A Fresno a day earlier. The Astros promoted Tucker after outfielder George Springer went on the seven-day disabled list with a concussion.
Tucker, a left-handed hitter, was in the starting lineup, hitting eighth and playing left field. A seventh-round pick by the Astros in 2012, Tucker, rated the Astros' No. 15 prospect, is leading the Minor Leagues in home runs (10) and RBIs (32), hitting .320 in 25 games. To make room on the 40-man roster, infielder Ronald Torreyes was designated for assignment.
