HOUSTON -- The Astros have designated third baseman Matt Dominguez for assignment, removing him from the 40-man roster to make space for Carlos Correa, the team's top prospect, who will make his Major League debut Monday in Chicago.
Dominguez, the Astros' Opening Day third baseman in 2013 and '14 after coming over from the Marlins in the Carlos Lee trade, has spent all of this season at Triple-A Fresno after the Astros traded for Luis Valbuena to start at third base. Dominguez was hitting .251 with four homers and 26 RBIs in 45 games for the Grizzlies.
