ANAHEIM – The Astros designated infielder Ronald Torreyes for assignment Thursday to make room for outfielder Preston Tucker on the 40-man roster.
Torres, 22, was hitting .200 with a .211 on-base percentage and .214 slugging percentage at Class AAA Fresno.
He hit .298 with a .345 on-base percentage and a .376 slugging percentage while striking out only 26 times last year at Class AAA Oklahoma City, prompting the Astros to add him to the 40-man roster last November.
Tucker’s contract was selected by the Astros a day after George Springer was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list.
