Astros closer Luke Gregerson had not been asked to collect a four-out save all season, but he was hardly surprised when A.J. Hinch called on him with two outs in the eighth to help seal the victory in Game 3 of the Division Series.
Leading the Royals 4-1, Gregerson took over with one on and two outs in the eighth. He induced a fielder’s choice grounder from Salvador Perez to end that frame. Then Alex Gordon cut the deficit in half with a leadoff home run to left in the ninth.
“I thought he was taking another pitch,” Gregerson said.
