A quality start by Framber Valdez wasn’t good enough to give the Astros their 12th straight win. Not when Tigers' #1 overall 2018 draft pick Casey Mize was even better, holding the Astros to one run, and six hits in six innings in this seven-inning game.
Valdez was equally good until the fifth inning when rookie Zack Short, brought up from the minors for this doubleheader, hit his first career homer to put the Tigers up for good, 3-1. In 13 major league at-bats Short has five hits.
The Astros’ only run came on a Carlos Correa single in the third inning.
