Aroldis Chapman concerns existed before abuse incident was reported

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The most important questions that have come up at this year’s winter meetings are just what happened on the October night Cincinnati Reds’ lefthander Aroldis Chapman allegedly choked his wife in Florida, and what the appropriate discipline is if any wrongdoing or crime occurred.

In the background is a question of who in the baseball world knew what of the allegations and when, and what obligation there was to pass on that information to others in baseball, if any.

MLB is gathering information and will act in accordance with its domestic abuse policy, chief baseball officer Joe Torre said Tuesday.
