Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch was second in AL Manager of the Year race, losing to fellow AL West manager Jeff Bannister.
Bannister garnered 112 points and 17 first-place votes, whereas Hinch received only 82 points and 8 first-place votes.
Hinch was looking to become the third ever Astros manager to win the award. Hal Lanier (1983) and Larry Dierker (1998) previously won the award after first place finishes in their division.
The Astros were arguably the biggest surprise of the year, holding first place in the AL West for much of the season. The team struggled down the stretch but still made the playoffs as the second Wild Card team.
