ANAHEIM, Calif. — George Springer said he turned down a chance to go to the Home Run Derby in his rookie season, concerned about his health in a year where his legs did end up cutting his season short.
This year, with his incredible play of late, he should again enter the field of possible contestants. It’s unclear, though, whether he’d agree to go. Rest over the All-Star break is valuable.
“Oh, I don’t even know yet. I’m not really a home run derby guy,” Springer said Tuesday, echoing a sentiment from last year. “I’m not really good at home run derbies.
