A New Year Payroll Update And Thoughts

Following the signing of Christian Walker earlier in the offseason, the Astros are flirting again with the first tax threshold of $241 million, with some variance in either direction. Depending on your site and calculation of preference, the club is barely under that first threshold or is in line to pay another round of the competitive balance tax in 2025.

  • Cot’s Baseball Contracts (Baseball Prospectus): $241,967,334
  • RosterResource (FanGraphs): $244,088,334
  • Spotrac: $240,378,333

As currently situated, the Astros are probably done with any significant additions. Never say never, though, as we learned last offseason with Josh Hader.
