KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Royals celebrated Hispanic Heritage Day on Saturday, donning their “Los Reales” uniforms and the Astros their orange “Los Astros” jerseys.
Over the air, meanwhile, the game was broadcast on radio stations in Kansas City and Houston by Francisco Romero and Alex Trevino, the Astros’ regular radio play-by-play team, who made a rare road excursion for the occasion.
Romero said Saturday’s game marked the first time a Royals game was broadcast in Spanish on radio. The Astros have had Spanish language radio since the dawn of the franchise, featuring such broadcasters as Orlando Sanchez-Diago, Rolando Becerra and Rene Cardenas in addition to Romero and Trevino.
