Houston Astros shortstop Jed Lowrie underwent successful surgery on Friday morning to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb suffered Monday in San Diego.
"Surgery went as expected this morning," general manager Jeff Luhnow said.
Astros physician/surgeon Dr. Tom Mehlhoff performed the surgery on Lowrie. Mehlhoff is a hand specialist and reportedly had no complications when repairing the shortstop's thumb.
Per Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle, "Lowrie is expected to be out at least until the All-Star break in July." He was hitting .300 with four home runs and ten RBIs in 60 at-bats prior to his injury.
