The Houston Astros ended a three-year streak of losing 100+ games last season, their second in the American League. They seem to be trending the right direction, but will they continue to improve in 2015? Here are some bold predictions:
1) Chris Carter will hit 50 home runs
Houston's slugger blasted 37 homers last season, and I think that number is only going to increase this year. He's only played in 399 games during his career, and he should flourish after two full years of experience in Houston's starting lineup. Carter became the first Astro to hit more than 30 home runs since 2006, and he'll become the first ever to hit 50 in 2015.
2) The Astros will give up over 700 runs again
Houston's pitching is the weakest part of their team, and while Dallas Keuchel, Collin McHugh and Scott Feldman have proven to be capable starters, there are still question marks at the back end of the rotation and in the bullpen. Add in the Astros' suspect defense behind them, and this will mark the 10th straight season Houston has allowed over 700 runs.
3) Houston will lose less than 90 games
The Astros aren't good enough to compete for a playoff spot, but all of their young talent will continue to produce at a high rate. Even though I think they'll finish with a losing record, Houston will break their streak of 90+ loss seasons while they continue to show real promise for the future.
