Without playing a game, the University of Hawai’i basketball team moved to the top of the Big West Conference standings on Wednesday night.
Long Beach State’s 63-56 upset win over UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton’s 78-74 upset win at UC Davis allowed the Rainbow Warriors to move into a tie for first place.
Hawai’i and UC Irvine are both 3-1. The Anteaters entered the game at Long Beach State as 10-point favorites, but the 49ers opened the second half with a 10-0 run to take control of the game.
UCI entered the game ranked among the national leaders in rebounding margin, but Long Beach out-rebounded the Anteaters 39-38.
