Senior guard/forward Samuta Avea announced on Monday night that he will opt out of the University of Hawai’i basketball team’s 2020-21 season.
The stunning announcement came via social media, with the following statement from Avea: “After careful discussion with my family and my coaches, I’ve decided to opt out of the 2020-21 season. It was a difficult decision, but I believe it’s the right thing to do at this time, not only for myself, but also my team. I will continue to work hard and stay focused. I love my teammates and coaches and can’t wait to rejoin them on the court next season.
