It has been almost 50 years since the “Fabulous Five” teams of University of Hawai’i basketball lore took the state on a two-year thrill ride and put the Rainbow Warriors on the national hoops map.
They are still being celebrated. The lasting impression of the Fabulous Five teams of 1970-71 and 1971-72 is undeniable, and the next public commemoration of them is set for this Friday, November 29, when the current Rainbow Warriors host San Francisco at the Stan Sheriff Center.
It is part of a season-long celebration and recognition of the past because this is the 100th season of men’s basketball at UH-Manoa.
