Waiakea girls basketball team made enough free throws to survive regulation and the first overtime, and it finally put away Kohala from the charity stripe in the second OT.
While Tuesday’s BIIF games in Pahala and Honokaa weren’t very competitive, there was a nail-biter at the Warriors’ gym. Elyse Hasegawa and Claire Kaneshiro each scored 14 points as Waiakea outlasted the Cowgirls 47-45.
“I think I was most proud of the poise the girls played with,” Warriors coach Kevin Iwata said. “We could have panicked, but the girls played with a lot of poise.”
Especially at the free throw line.
