In a defensive battle, Kohala boosted its postseason aspirations while all but squashing Hawaii Prep’s.
Brittany Shimono scored 13 points Friday night and the Cowgirls beat Ka Makani 35-26 to move into second place in BIIF Division II.
Kohala (3-5) has regular-season games remaining with Kealakehe (1-7) and Pahoa (2-6) as it tries to avoid the fourth seed in the league semifinals.
Coco Shafer scored nine points for Ka Makani (0-7), who remained two games behind a playoff spot and are in danger of their second consecutive winless season.
