There are tougher tests ahead, but so far so good for Honokaa in its foray back to Division I girls basketball.
Kizzah Maltezo scored 19 points Tuesday night at Honokaa Armory, and the Dragons defeated Waiakea 50-28, improving to 4-0 in the BIIF.
Kawena Kaohimaunu chipped in with 14 points for Honokaa, which took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Warriors 19-7.
Freshman Madison Hwang scored nine points for Waiakea (1-1).
The Dragons have two more tuneups before welcoming defending state champion Konawaena for a game at Honokaa on Jan. 12. The other big Division I game marked on Honokaa’s calendar is a Jan.
