The closest thing resembling competition Friday night between Hilo and Waiakea came from the fans in the stands.
In a battle of cheers during the second quarter at a packed and waterlogged Wong Stadium, the Warriors’ fans on the left wing appeared to get the better of a sound-off against the Vikings’ partisans across the way to their right.
That spirit contest aside as Waiakea celebrated homecoming, it was all Hilo on the football field. Ka‘ale Tiogangco passed for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Vikings thoroughly dominated their crosstown rival 35-0 in a mud-fest.
