Madison — The Wisconsin state Assembly has passed a resolution honoring Hall of Fame Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr.
The 81-year-old most valuable player in the first Super Bowl was not able to be present Tuesday for the honor. Starr is recovering from a life-threatening lung infection about a year after a heart attack and multiple strokes debilitated him.
State Rep. Warren Petryk wore a Starr jersey as he read a letter from his wife Cherry thanking them for the honor, saying his heart still lives in Wisconsin. Petryk says this is the first time Starr has ever been honored with such a resolution.
