The NFL is an ever-evolving league. It’s a cat and mouse game between offenses and defenses.
Offenses used to dominate with power backs. Then defenses caught up with bigger, stronger fronts. That led to the west coast offense spreading players out in space with quick hit routes. Defenses adjusted with nickel and dime formations. Offenses countered with mesh concepts and misdirection.
And the story goes on.
Because of the rule changes continually favoring the offensive side of the ball, offenses always lead the way in the evolution of the game and defenses are always playing catch up.
