It will go down as the best eBay purchase of Tim Horton’s life.
A Green Bay Packers 1940s leather game worn helmet he bought for $499 in January sold for $33,600 during Heritage Auctions Platinum Night Auction last weekend.
For those scoring at home, after consignment fees were taken out of his winnings Horton made roughly $25,000 in fewer than two months.
The helmet was one of a handful of items profiled by USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin leading up to the auction that completely shattered estimates.
The oldest Packers ticket to hit the auction block and a program from the same game played almost 100 years ago fetched $21,000, while hand-drawn and anointed plays written by Vince Lombardi on the Trans World Airlines ticket folder of famed photographer Robert Riger sold for $10,800.
