Vikings' Peterson undergoes 'successful' knee surgery (AFP)

Los Angeles (AFP) - Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson had "successful" surgery on his right knee on Thursday and will begin rehabilitation immediately, although the NFL team gave no date for his return.

Peterson, 31, had the operation in Minneapolis four days after he was hurt in the Vikings' victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

"Adrian Peterson had a successful lateral meniscus repair this morning," the team said. "The surgery was performed by team physician Chris Larson at Twin Cities Orthopedics.

"There were no additional injuries or issues noted in or surrounding the knee joint during the surgical procedure," the Vikings noted, contradicting a report that Peterson also had a torn lateral collateral ligament.
