Tuesday Cheese Curds: Xavier McKinney proving to be exactly what the Packers defense needed

It’s kind of remarkable how perfectly the Xavier McKinney signing has worked out.

The Packers desperately needed safety help. Their motley crew of Darnell Savage, Jonathan Owens, Rudy Ford, and Anthony Johnson didn’t get the job done in 2023, so Brian Gutekunst started from scratch, making his biggest splash in the position group’s instant makeover in free agency when he bestowed a princely contract on McKinney.

It was a big swing, especially considering McKinney had played just two full seasons in New York, missing significant time in both his first and third seasons. But it paid off immediately.
