Every year, as the NFL cut day looms, fans of every NFL team bang their fists on the table for fringe roster players to make the initial 53-man roster so as to not have those players relegated to the practice squad, where they could be signed by another NFL team to their active roster. As of 2020, NFL practice squad rosters can consist of a maximum of 16 players. Six of those players can have unlimited NFL experience, and every Tuesday, each NFL team can protect four players from being signed to another NFL team’s active roster.
