A few years ago, the Green Bay Packers had a wide receiver who lined up in the slot with regularity, who caught darn near everything thrown to him, and who was an absolute machine in terms of his efficiency as a receiver. Over the course of three seasons from 2019 to 2021, Allen Lazard averaged 13.3 yards per reception and caught about 68 percent of his passes while becoming a DVOA superstar.
When elevated to a full-time starting receiver in 2022, Lazard’s efficiency did drop a bit. But with Aaron Rodgers playing on a bum thumb for much of the season and the team breaking in a pair of rookie wide receivers around him, the entire offense took a dip from its grand heights the three years prior.
