PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WKBN) – The Pittsburgh Steelers officially released linebacker Preston Smith on Friday.
Smith was acquired by the Steelers in a trade with the Green Bay Packers prior to the NFL trade deadline last November. In the deal, Green Bay received a 2025 seventh-round draft choice.
Smith’s release saves Pittsburgh $13.4 million in salary cap space in 2025, and $14.1 million in 2026.
The 33-year-old appeared in eight games with the Steelers following the trade. He tallied two sacks, 1 fumble recovery, and 13 total tackles during his time with Pittsburgh.
