Stanford smart: Ty Montgomery's football IQ shows up for Packers

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Admit it: You thought Ty Montgomery messed up when he fielded a kickoff Sunday at his own 3-yard line with his feet out of bounds.

Even some of his teammates did.

Turns out the Green Bay Packers second-year receiver knew exactly what to do when the Detroit Lions sent a first-quarter kickoff sailing toward the sideline deep in Packers' territory on Sunday.

Instead of simply fielding it there, where the Lions coverage team almost certainly would have pinned Montgomery deep, he ran around the outside of the pylon and with his toes on the white paint that marked the boundary, he leaned forward to grab the ball, after it bounced into the end zone and then back out, and pull it into his chest at the 3-yard line.
