The Packers were in the market last offseason to find competition for Anders Carlson at kicker, so special teams coach Rich Bisaccia had studied Brayden Narveson coming out of college at North Carolina State.
The Packers released Carlson on the cutdown to 53 players this week, then put in a waiver claim on Narveson, who was cut by Tennessee.
