Report: NFL executives believe Packers will release CB Jaire Alexander

The Green Bay Packers may prefer to trade cornerback Jaire Alexander, but NFL executives are expecting the Packers will eventually have to release the two-time All-Pro, according to post-NFL Scouting Combine reporting from Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports.

"Meanwhile, two-time All-Pro Jaire Alexander is available via trade, although most executives believe the Packers will ultimately release him," Schultz wrote after spending last week in Indianapolis.

It's clear the Packers and Alexander have decided to part ways, so the only question remaining is whether the divorce happens via trade or release. The Packers would love to get compensation back while also determining exactly where Alexander goes, but a trade takes two teams to tango, and it's possible teams will be willing to wait out the Packers considering Alexander has dealt with a serious injury during three of the last four seasons and still has over $35 million left in base salary over the final two years of his deal.
