Green Bay — Despite his offense's slide into the depths of mediocrity, Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy did not take over play-calling duties during an 18-16 defeat to the Detroit Lions and said he has no plans to do so in the future.
McCarthy oversees the offensive game plan and can hear every call that assistant head coach / offense Tom Clements makes during a game, but he has relinquished authority to his former offensive coordinator to make the calls in the heat of each contest.
Asked if he was ready to take back the duties nine games into Clements' inaugural season calling plays, McCarthy said making that switch wouldn't necessarily be the right thing for the offense
"I don't think it's that simple," McCarthy said.
