Green Bay— In what amounts to a vote of confidence for veteran punter Tim Masthay, the Green Bay Packers released Cody Mandell, a first-year player from Alabama. Mandell was not at practice Monday.
"I am happy to be taking full reps again," Masthay said, "and it's an encouraging sign from the organization toward me."
The punting competition, while short-lived, originated after Masthay completed the worst season of his career in 2015. Masthay, 28, posted a net average of just 37 yards that ranked 30th in the NFL among 32 qualified punters.
