Packers' decision not to add receiver costly after Randall Cobb's injury

GLENDALE, Ariz. – James Jones. Jared Abbreders. Jeff Janis.

Those were Aaron Rodgers’ receivers after he lost Randall Cobb to a chest injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s NFC divisional playoff game at Arizona.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy and general manager Ted Thompson rolled the dice that four receivers would be enough after Davante Adams was ruled out early in the week because of the knee injury he sustained in last week’s wild-card playoff win over the Redskins.

They had two receivers on the practice squad: Ed Williams and Jamel Johnson.

Instead, they promoted a cornerback, Robertson Daniel, to fill the roster spot that was created by tight end Andrew Quarless going to injured reserve because of his recurring knee problems.
