Packers want good long-snapping competition while Brett Goode waits

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay Packers apparently aren’t sold on Rick Lovato as their long-snapper.

They brought in competition on Tuesday, when they signed Jesse Schmitt, who has no previous NFL game experience.

Meanwhile, veteran snapper Brett Goode remains waiting in the wings, ready to prove that he’s recovered from the torn ACL he sustained last season. Goode, who became a free agent following last season, has been working out at home in Arkansas and hopes to play again this season, agent Kevin Gold said.

Lovato, who was signed last December right out of Joyce’s Subs and Pizza in New Jersey, played in the final two regular-season games plus the two playoff games last year after Goode tore his ACL on Dec.
