He was used as an extra defensive back in certain sub packages because of his ability to play the run. In the offseason, Richardson received a restricted free agent offer sheet from the Oakland Raiders that the Packers matched.
That was as good a sign as any that the Packers felt Richardson had something to offer.
Now, they’re trying to find more ways to work him in to a crowded defensive backfield.
“He’s coming into his own,” coach Mike McCarthy said. “I thought he had an excellent year last year with the opportunities he had.
