Adrian Amos knows the heartbreak of Alzheimer’s disease.
At 27, the Green Bay Packers safety has seen firsthand the toll it can take on a family. Growing up in Baltimore, he was close to his grandmother, Geraldine Thompson, and was often with her when she cared for his great-grandmother, who suffered from dementia. He saw all that went into it and all it took away.
Then in 2012, the same disease came for his grandma. The caregiver in a family with seven children, 15 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren became the person who needed care.
“She was already the go-to person in the family and now everybody had to pitch in to help her, because her mind was going away, fading, and I just saw that decline,” Amos said.
