Green Bay — The island of Martha's Vineyard sits a few miles south of the Massachusetts mainland, just off the coast of Cape Cod. With windswept dunes, towering cliffs and picturesque beaches, the Vineyard is a playground for vacationing New Englanders, and summertime populations swell as high as 115,000 people.
Beach dwellers aside, there are 15,000 full-time residents on the island. They are scattered among six towns and live a fairly isolated lifestyle. The island, named by English explorer Bartholomew Gosnold in 1602, can only be reached by air or sea.
Among those full-time residents is Randall Jette, a cornerback who signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent from the University of Massachusetts.
