Tuesday’s trades created an enormous roster hole at free safety for the Packers, while also created two open spots on the 53-man roster. While Mike McCarthy was evasive on who would step into HaHa Clinton-Dix’s role at safety, the Packers promoted Tra Carson off the practice squad to fill the No. 3 running back job vacating by Ty Montgomery’s trade to the Baltimore Ravens.
Carson, a second-year pro, played just five offensive snaps in two games for the Bengals this season after spending his entire rookie year on the practice squad.
