Packers place Aaron Rodgers on injured reserve following collarbone surgery

One day after Aaron Rodgers underwent surgery on his broken collarbone, the Green Bay Packers have placed him on injured reserve.

Late Thursday night, Rodgers announced on social media that his surgery "went well" and thanked fans for the outpouring of support. Packers Head coach Mike McCarthy said earlier in the week that any decision on his roster spot would wait until after his surgery. With that out of the way, the team moved forward and placed him on IR to free up a roster spot.

Rodgers missed only seven games the last time he broke his collarbone, returning for the season finale to win the NFC North crown in stunning last-minute fashion.
