Green Bay — Back in 1966, Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi had just six assistant coaches on his staff. But Lombardi fully understood the direction football was headed, and hired Bob Schnelker as his wide receivers coach.
For the next 48 seasons, the Packers had an assistant coach whose No. 1 job was working with Green Bay's wideouts. The impressive list of assistants included Tom Coughlin (1986-'87), Jon Gruden (1993-'94) and Gil Haskell (1995-'97).
Packers coach Mike McCarthy felt so strongly about the positional group that he assigned two men — Edgar Bennett and John Rushing — to the job in 2011.
