Indianapolis — Ted Thompson, in lighthearted but firm fashion, maintained Thursday the Green Bay Packers need not apologize for their roster-building methods since he took over as general manager 11 years ago.
Generally inactive in unrestricted free agency and the trade market and mostly reliant on the practice squad for in-season additions, Thompson vowed more draft-and-develop while remaining mindful of adding veteran players.
"We value free agency," Thompson told reporters at the NFL scouting combine. "We have guys, Julius Peppers, guys who have been free agents. If you can help us win football games and be a good teammate, you have a place with us.
