The Green Bay Packers needed pass-catching options to surround Jordan Love with more talent. They also needed tight end depth, because there was not much behind Josiah Deguara to effectively play in the offense. So why not do both at the same time? That's what general manager Brian Gutekunst did with pick 42, the one they had acquired from the New York Jets in the Aaron Rodgers trade, taking Oregon State' Luke Musgrave.
If Dalton Kincaid was a frequent option in mocks for the Packers in the first round, Green Bay got a cheaper option, but arguably with an even higher ceiling — even though the floor is lower, especially because a knee injury forced Musgrave to miss all but two games in 2022, so the production isn't there.
