When former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh was fired mid-season, the Green Bay Packers scooped him up as an analyst to work with the offensive side of the ball, in an attempt to reverse-engineer what opposing defenses were doing. Saleh and Packers head coach Matt LaFleur are tight — LaFleur was the best man in Saleh’s wedding — but the assumption was always that Saleh was only going to be an in-season rental unless defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley surged as a head coaching candidate elsewhere, allowing Saleh to replace him as coordinator.
Saleh might not even be coordinator material, though, as the Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars have both interviewed him for their head coaching vacancies.
