GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Ted Thompson has told the story a number of times. But it’s apropos again this year.
The Green Bay Packers’ longtime general manager already has made one post-final cutdown move -- claiming ex-Minnesota Vikings running back Jhurell Pressley on waivers and cutting undrafted rookie running back Brandon Burks after Burks survived Saturday’s roster reduction. And in the next day or two, Thompson will have to make another when the team officially re-signs veteran long-snapper Brett Goode.
While these are the realities of being an NFL hopeful, it’s also perhaps the worst way to lose out on a roster spot -- to make the team on what’s in theory the final roster cutdown, only to find yourself unemployed a day or two later.
