No help wanted: Packers cornerback Sam Shields handling coverage himself

GREEN BAY, Wis. – If you look closely on the replay, you can see Green Bay Packers cornerback Sam Shields say something to safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix before a play in the second quarter of Sunday’s win over the St. Louis Rams.

According to defensive coordinator Dom Capers' call, Clinton-Dix was supposed to help Shields cover Rams receiver Brian Quick.

Instead, Shields called him off, handled Quick one on one and broke up a pass in the end zone that would have been a 24-yard touchdown.

“He’s gotten to the point where we’ve been in coverage where he’s had help and he’s told the safety, ‘Hey I got him, you can go over there,’” Packers cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt said.
