Mike P. McCoy helped Packers in a big way

Mike P. McCoy was the second-overall player in the 1970 National Football League draft, a Notre Dame All-American defensive tackle who was selected by the Green Bay Packers to anchor their defense in a new decade.

The 6-foot-5, 284-pound McCoy was the lineman of the future: big, mobile and smart. He was a critical addition to a Packers defense desperate to stop the run after yielding an average of 141.6 yards per game in 1969.

"Phil Bengtson liked 'em big," said Dave Robinson, the former Packers linebacker and Pro Football Hall of Famer. "That's why he drafted Mike McCoy.
