Mike McCarthy explains Michael Clark's retirement, Cole Madison's absence

-- Mike McCarthy provided an update on the two players placed on the Green Bay Packers' reserve/did not report list this week.

Wide receiver Michael Clark, a 6-6 former basketball player with one year of collegiate football experience under his belt and offensive lineman Cole Madison, one of the team's three fifth-round picks in April's draft, were both placed on the aforementioned list on Wednesday, the same day the team reported to training camp.

Madison is tending to a personal matter, whereas Clark simply retired flat-out from the game of football.

"That kind of took us by surprise Tuesday and Wednesday, and really I think in respect to Cole I'm going to just leave it at that," McCarthy said of Madison before Thursday's first training camp practice.
